Gold in its purest form is 24 karat and has the color of yellow with a hint of deep orange to it. When other metals are used in alloying gold other colors are created. Adding copper to gold makes the gold have a reddish tone to it. Adding silver, zinc or other white or gray metals will cause the gold to look paler or white. When gold is alloyed the gold content or gold karat weight is lower.
